Meet Alex, your virtual Benefits Counselor!
If you are a new hire or newly eligible Associate, you may enroll in benefits during your eligibility period. Your eligibility period is the 30- or 31-day period starting on the day you are hired or otherwise become eligible for benefits. If you don't enroll during your eligibility period, you'll need to wait until the next Open Enrollment or Biennial Enrollment period, as applicable. You may enroll in the 401(k) plan any time after attaining eligibility. New hires are automatically enrolled in the NEXCOM Pension Plan. Contributions will begin after your one-year anniversary. You may opt out anytime by completing an opt-out form.
There are three Aetna medical plans available to NEXCOM associates. There is a lower cost option for each plan called a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
- Aetna Choice POS II (available to associates residing in the United States & Hawaii)
- Aetna Choice POS II - HDHP
- Aetna Traditional Choice (TC) (available to associates residing in the US and don’t have access to an Aetna Network)
- Aetna Traditional Choice (TC) HDHP
- Aetna International Traditional Choice (AI) (for those who reside overseas)
- Aetna International Traditional Choice (AI) - HDHP
Your zip code determines which plan(s) are available in your area. In some areas, associates will also have a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) option.
Regular full-time and regular part-time associates are eligible to join a medical plan:
- Within 31 days of your hire date
- During an open enrollment period (active employees only)
- Within 31 days of certain qualifying life events

The HDHP works much like plans you are familiar with where you meet a deductible each year, then share in the cost of your care. However, with this plan your deductible is higher in exchange for a 23% lower employee cost (premium) than Aetna non-HDHP plans.
Here's how the HDHP works:
- You pay 100% of your health care expenses, including covered prescription drugs, until you meet the annual deductible.
- Once you meet the deductible, you pay a percentage of the covered expenses and Aetna pays their portion up to the plan’s out-of-pocket maximum.
- Once you meet the out-of-pocket maximum, covered services are paid at 100% for the rest of the year.
- The deductible is waived on drugs on the Preventive Medicine List.
- For Aetna Choice POS II – HDHP participants: This plan uses the same provider network (doctors, hospitals, pharmacies) as the Choice POS II plan. Rest easy knowing that you do not need to change your doctors.
NEXCOM offers two dental plans:
The Aetna Preferred Provider (PPO) Network Dental Plan/International Dental Plan:
When you enroll in an Aetna medical plan (or an HMO plan), you are eligible to enroll in the Aetna Passive PPO Network Dental Plan. With this plan, you may visit any licensed dentist. Preventive dental care is covered at 100%. For more advanced care, the plan pays a portion of the expense, depending on the services you receive, up to $2,500/year. Associates living in the US or Hawaii can save money by using dentists who belong to Aetna’s dental network, since those dentists provide their services at lower, Aetna negotiated rates. NEXCOM shares in the premium cost of this dental plan.
The Aetna Stand-Alone Dental Plan:
If you only want dental benefits, you can choose the Stand Alone Dental Plan. This plan cannot be combined with any of NEXCOM’s Aetna or HMO medical plans. NEXCOM does not share in the premium cost of this dental plan.
