Northwest Territorial Mint USN USS Green Bay LPD 20 Coin
The USS Green Bay (LPD-20) plays a critical role in America’s naval superiority across the globe. A San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, she is well equipped to support amphibious operations in any theater.
Named after their town, the people of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and their professional football team, the Green Bay Packers, unofficially adopted the ship. For its 2009 commissioning, Green Bay residents and local businesses sent the ship a large amount of Green Bay and Packers memorabilia. The ship's crew responded by naming the USS Green Bay’s flight deck "Lambeau Field" in honor of the Packers' stadium.
Commissioned on 24 January 2009, the USS Green Bay has a displacement of approximately 24,900 tons and carries a crew of over 360 officers and enlisted personnel. Due to its amphibious support capabilities, the USS Green Bay is ideally suited to support the Navy’s critical mission abroad, and can carry a fully equipped battalion of approximately 800 Marines.
Minted in the USA from solid bronze, using special deep-relief coining dies with enamel accents, and hand-finished with an antique patina for exceptional quality and detail, this coin pays tribute to the USS Green Bay and salutes the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains the Green Bay Packers logo over the USS Green Bay, and next to the phrase: "Stand and Fight, Remain Unvanquished." The reverse displays the seal of the USS Green Bay.
